Abstract     Palliative care is the phase in the patient's treatment in which we cannot stop the course of malignant disease with specific therapy but can only alleviate the symptoms and care for the best quality of life of the patient as much as possible. Malnutrition is a frequent symptom of the progress of malignant disease. We treat the symptoms inhibiting a sufficient food intake, such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, pain, anxiety or depression with causal treatment or we try at least to alleviate them. We provide the patient with advice about proper nutrition and nutritional supplements. The principal attitude to the nutrition needs of a dying patient should be to respect his wishes and his mood.
