Abstract		Notification of cancer has been compulsory in Slovenia since the foundation of the Cancer Registry of Slovenia (CR) in 1950 and is prescribed by law. The data collected serve as the basis for assessing the cancer burden in the country, for programming and evaluating primary prevention diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, as well as for clinical and epidemiological researc in Slovenia and in international multicentric studies. The aim of cancer registration is completeness and accuracy of collected data. For this purpose we link the CR's database with related state databases. For example, CR links its database with Central Register of Population in Slovenia for updating vital status of registered cases and with the database of death certificates from Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia to obtain causes of death for registered cases and for expanding the database with new cases. When linking two databeses extreme caution is needed to prevent mistakes like duplication of cases. The quality of acquired data is also very important.
