Abstract		The article contains the basics of transfontanellar color and pulsed Doppler sonographic examination in the neonate. It explains the technical basis of Doppler ultrasound, the practical technique of examination in the neonate, a short review of the anatomy of cerebral vessels, the specialties of neonatal cerebral perfusion and the possibilities of investigating some major diseases of the brain in the neonatal period: ischemic cerebral damage, major brain diseases in the preterm infant, hemodynamics in hydrocephalus, pericerebral fluid collections, intracranial infections and brain malformations.
