Abstract		Sonographic examination of hydrocephalus in newborns is described in the article. Brain sonography is the first and best method for early diagnosis of hydrocephalus as well as for further control before and after ventricular shunt implantation. Doppler sonography can be used to assess intracranial pressure and is helpful in determining whether shunt placement is necessary in hydrocephalic infants.
