Abstract     Prognosis of patients with oesophageal cancer is still poor with five year survival varies between 5% and 10%. Endoscopic ultrasonography is the most accurate method of assessing the regional extent of cancer of the oesophagus to find those patients which are capable to get benefit from surgery. In this revision we retrospectively review EUS finding compared with surgical finding. Since 1. 1. 2002 to 30. 09. 2005 42 patients were examinated. In this group 28 patients was revealed oesophageal cancer. In 14 patients was found just benign lesion. 12 patients have been surgical treating. For 6 was surgical treatment successful and radical, but also for 6 just palliative therapy was performed. 3 were treated with radiotherapy or neoadjuvant therapy. Due to advanced disease or cardiopulmonary disease 8 patients weren't treated surgically. 1 patient was refused surgical treatment. For 4 patients we haven't got any reversal information yet. Accuracy for T-staging for operated patients was 67%. In group of surgical treated patients in 10 patients (83%) esophagus wasn't traversed due to cancer stenoses. N-staging was solid with overall accuracy 67 %. We don't know a reason why we haven't had more examinations while in our hospital have been treated much more patients with esophageal cancer. It is important to find patients with disease in earlier phase due to effective therapy.
