Abstract     The described course of growth of the upper part of the oral cavity from the age of three till ten in normal children is based on trigonometric analysis of 111 casts of this part taken from 18 normal children and on the analysis od the photographs of the casts. The impressions were taken in one year intervals around the date of birth. In the period under observation the upper part of the oral cavity is enlarging and remodeling. Remodeling is most evident during the third and fifth year of life when there is nearly no growth. The growth is most intensive during the fifth and seventh year, after that it is decreasing. The alveolar arch is enlarging mainly because of growth at the region of the tuber. The growth in the individual child has its own pattern. The differences in the size of the upper part of the oral cavity are little smaller at the age of ten than at three. The shape of the dental arch is similar at the age of three and ten. Only four children from the observed group have normal dental arch at the age of ten. The results of the investigation will serve as norms for comparison when stud ying the growth in children with different typs of clefts and for evaluating the results of different methods of treatment of children with clefts.
