Abstract		The article deals with early gastric cancer; classic and newer, less invasive methods of treatment are described. Treatment results of our 20-year series (1983 to 2002) are presented. 263 patients with early gastric cancer were treated. 256 patients had classical resection with D1/D2 lymphadenectomy, in 3 cases local excision was made, 4 patients were treated endoscopically. 30-day postoperative mortality rate was 6,1 %. 33 patients had mucosal and 130 submucosal type of early gastric cancer. 13,7% patients had regional lymph node metastasis. 5,3% in mucosal and 22,3% in submucosal type group. 5-year survival rate was 79,7%.
