Abstract     Background. The number of surgical procedures performed for peptic ulcer decreased in recent years, also of malignant gastric diseases. The majority of patients operated upon today, undergoes the procedure because of peptic ulcer complications. Postoperative complications after gastric resections because malignant disease are similar of nonmalignant. Despite the low postoperative mortality after elective surgery, 10 to 20% of patients suffer the consequences of surgery. Rehabilitation of patients after surgery is surgical, medical, nutritional and physical. A better understanding of gastric pathophysiology and oncologic principles in gastric carcinoma treatment allows more logical choice of initial operation and treatment of complex disorders after operation.
