Abstract		Background: The morbid obesity is getting more often problem of well developed part of the world, is the cause of numerous chronic diseases which reduce life expectancy. All conservative methods for reducing the body weight are in long term unssuccessful, only laparoscopic bariatric surgical procedures are efficient reducing the excessive body weight. Methods. In the article we present all contemporary laparoscopic bariatric surgical procedures which are efficient reducing the excessive body weight. The surgical metods are divided into three categories: restrictive procedures, combined restrictive and malabsorptive, procedures, and primarily malabsorptive procedures. Presented is efficiency of different surgical procedures and indications for each procedure. Results: The results in the cited literature show that laparoscopic bariatric surgical procedures are the only successful methods for reducing the body weight in morbid obese patients. Conclusions: recommending the optimal bariatric procedure is an involved and complex process. In making a final recommendation for surgery, it is important to understand that no one procedure is ideal; each operation has its advantages and disadvantages.
