Abstract     In the thesis we were assessing, whether isopods Ligidium hypnorum take up water also through anal opening and if yes, under which conditions this can happen. We have carried out experiments where we sealed the animals' mouth and exposed them to moist substratum. We have labefled the liquid with cobalt andlor vital dye and with fluorescent dye. We have measured the presence of cobalt in hepatopancreas. Concentration of metals was higher than that of control animafs, which proved that the liquid entered the body. In experiments with vital dye, the coloured intestine showed that the liquid entered the body. The results show that concentration on levels of cobalt were at the limit of detection so we could not determine the presence of metal in digestive organs. Results with vital and fluorescent dyes show clearly, that the liquid enters the body also through the anal opening. When the animal is exposed to moist substratum and her body is moist differences were observed among individual animals.
