Abstract     Pelvic pain is one of the most frequent presenting symptoms encountered by clinicians who care for female adolescents. Girls may present with acute pain or chronic or recurrent pain. Acute pain may represent a life -threatening situation and ectopic pregnancy, rupture of ovarian cyst, torsion of adnexae and pelvic inflammatory disease must be considered. For the young patient who presents with chronic pelvic pain, a rnultidisciplinary approach is essential to facilitate diagnosis and management. Whenever possible, organic disease such as endometriosis, adhesions, pelvic congestion and obstructive malformation should be identified and treated as indicated. Beside organic also psychosocial factors must be considered, because both may contribute to an adolescents experience of pain.
