Abstract		Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a frequent disease and important cause of death especially in elderly and in patients with underlying chronic diseases. Recently several novelties have appeared in the management of CAP especially severity assessment. Severity assessment enables the physician to assess the risk of an individual patient and according to that risk decides how and where that patient should be treated. Based on these principles the new Slovenian guidelines for the management and treatment of CAP are presented in the article with the special emphasis on the stepwise management of CAP.
