Abstract     Acute gastroenteritis in child, diarrheal disease, marked with rapid onset, may be accompanied by nausea, vorniting, fever, and abdominal pain. Most acute gastroenteritis in the pediatric population is infectious and self-limited. Diarrhoe in chffdren is still a common reason for consulting a doctor and for hospital admission. Intravenous fluids are recommended for children with shock and/or severe dehydration. Oral rehydration with low osmolarity oral rehydration solution is the treatment of choice in mild to moderate dehydration - it is equally effective as intravenous therapy. Early refeeding improves weight gain without increasing diarrhoe or vomiting. Anti-emetic medications and anti-motility agents are contraindicated. The decision to treat with antimicrobial therapy should be made on a special needs of individual children and may differ by age group and epidemiological situation. Preventive strategy include educating people about personal, hand and food hygiene and encouraging breastfeeding.
