Abstract     Virulence Factors of Uropathogenic Escherichia coli Strains - Pathogenie bacteria cause illness due to the production of virulence factors. A collection of 110 uropathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli) strains (DL collection) were screened for the prevalence of several virulence factors. Using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) we searched for fyuA, iroN, papGIII, traT, ibe10 and PAI nucleotide sequences. Our results showed that 76% of the tested strains harboured fyuA, traT was harboured by 57%, iroN by 45%, PAI by 42%, papGIII by 13% and ibe10 by 9% of strains in the DL collection. 9 of the tested strains (8%) harboured none ol the screened nucleotide sequences, 21% of strains harboured only 1,25% harboured 2, 20% harboured 3, 16% harboured 4 and 9% of strains harboured 5 of the screened nucleotide sequences. No strain harboured all 6 investigated nucleotide sequences. Taken together, different strains posses different combinations of screened nucleotide sequences.
