Abstract     Background. The author's aim in this research was to find the relarion among demographic data, occupation of out-patient clinics illness trends of active population and the means used for health activity in the Republic of Slovenia in the period between 1980 and 1989. Methods. On the basis of the official statistics data the trends in illness of the population in the out-patient clinics where mostly active population (i. e. population at the age of 15 - 60) is treated have been calculated. Results. As the largest proportion of active population look for medical assistence in out-patient clinics of general medicine as well as medicine of work, traffic and sport, it is for these two clinics (included are clinics all over Slovenia) that on the basis of the flexible averages respectively the calculation has been made of the value of further time series for the population illness prognosis, which is indicated by the calculated negative trend of the foreseen popularion-illness rate by the year 1995. That means that under the existing conditions the illness rate of active population should decrease by 1995 by 3.6 per cent and by 2.5 persons per 1000 inhabitants respectively per year in clinics of medicine of work, traffic and sport and by 4.3 per cent and 4.5 persons per 1000 inhabitants respectively per year in the general practitioner's clinics. Conclusions. According to calculations made no linear corelation exists between structural share of expense for health activity and stated illness rate in general medicine while on the other period. hand, a high linear co-relation exists between hospital share in the total income of health activity and an average hospitalization
