Abstract     Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common tumor with a poor prognosis without therapy. Only curable therapeutic methods are surgical resection, ablation or transplantation. At the time of diagnosis, 80% of patients are inoperable. The success of the systemic chemotherapy is poor. We present our experience with transarterial chemoembolisation (TACE), which represents an established method of treatment of inoperable HCC, of recurrence of HCC or palliative treatment. It is a combined method with local embolisation and chemotherapy. We describe indications and contraindications, the procedure itself, its benefits, complications and side effects.
