Abstract     Radiofrequency ablation is a newer method in oncologycal treatment, based on tissue heating. The method can be performed as intra-operative or percutaneous treatment in association with imaging methods to view and access the lesion. Percutaneous RFA is a successful method for treatment of localised malignant tumors and some benign tumors. In a single punction, lesions up to 5 cm can be destroyed and RFA can be performed in combination with intraarterial tumor embolisation or intraarterial chemotherapy to improve the cytotoxyc effect of the treatment. The treatment has been performed in our department for only a few months, so our experiences are limited. First results of percutaneous treatment of pulmonary and renal tumors are good, no complications were noted. Literature offers many promissing results in the treatment of hepatic, renal, pulmonary and bone lesions. RFA of small hepatocellular carcinomas is becoming an alternative to surgical resection. The best results can be achieved in the treatment of smaller lesions, results on larger ones still remain to be confirmed. Long-term follow-up will evaluate the succes of the method.
