Abstract | Clinical studies of anticoagulant treatment on cancer prognosis are reviewed. Cancer induces a chronic hypercoagulability state that leads to increased risk of deep venous thrombosis and is associated with a progress of malignancy. Low molecular weight heparin has a well-established role in management of deep venous thrombosis and it may provide a survival benefit in some cancer patients. Low molecular weight heparin may increase the response rate to anticancer therapy and so it could improve survival even in cancer patients without deep venous thrombosis. | |
