| Abstract | The main function of the lung is oxygenation of the blood. Ventilation, diffussion and perfussion occur during pulmonary gas exchange. In separate pulmonary compartments the processes are present to a different extent. Quantitative equality of ventilation, perfusion and diffusion in pulmonary compartments is the most important factor of pulmonary gas exchange. Different factors contributing to the extent of pulmonary gas exchange in normal circumstances are discussed. | |
