Abstract		The author deals with the epidemiology and prevention of chronic pulmonary diseases and chronic cor pulmonale in Slovenia and abroad. The most freguent cause of chronic cor pulmonale is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Bad prognostic sign is annual sharp fall of FEV1. The most important role in primary prevention is the cessation of smoking. The aim of secondary prevention is the postponement of chronic cor pulmonale to an advanced age.
