Abstract     This article emphasizes the importance of the role of health education of the parents of children with percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy. Children undergo gastrostomy because of to their inability to eat or be fed by mouth. Usually these are children with neurological disorders, who are completely dependent on the help and care of their parents. During hospitalisation the child's parents are present at all times with their child so that they learn to take care of the child at home. They receive information about feeding, skin care and possible complications and are actively included in all phases of the health care process. It is important that children with gastrostomy and their parents are managed by a team of specialists: gastroenterologist, nursing sister, dietician, and, if necessary, a psychologist. At discharge children with gastrostomy and their parents can feel very unsure, because it is not easy to leave the protective environment of the hospital, where help is available 24 hours a day. Good education of the parents is therefore essential and contributes to a more successful return of the child to his home environment.
Summary     Prispevek poudarja pomembnost vloge zdravstvene vzgoje staršev otrok s perkutano endoskopsko gastrostomo. Otroci imajo vstavljeno gastrostomo zaradi neprehranljivosti.
