Abstract		Gastrointestinal diseases account for at least 10-20 % of patients seeking medical care in general practice, a significant number of them are treated in hospitals. They represent a spectrum of problems that include organic diseases and functional disturbances. Extensive research in the last ten years, together with the development and availability of diagnostic methods, has now facilitated a better understanding of symptoms of gastrointestinal diseases. The purpose of this article is to overview the most frequent symptoms in patients with gastrointestinal diseases. The clinician should utilize different diagnostic tests to confirm a clinical suspicion or to provide new information that could assist in effective management of this patients.
Summary		Bolezni prebavil sodijo med pogoste, saj 10-20 % bolnikov prihaja v ambulante splošne medicine zaradi teh težav, mnogo pa se jih zdravi tudi v bolnišnici. Med njimi so bolniki z organskimi in funkcionalnimi boleznimi prebavil. V zadnjih desetih letih je razvoj in dostopnost različnih diagnostičnih metod omogočil številne raziskave, katerih izsledki so omogočili boljše razumevanje simptomov različnih bolezni prebavne cevi. Namen prispevka je povzeti najpomembnejše simptome, ki jih imajo bolniki z obolenji prebavne cevi. Pri kliničnem delu in odločanju o diagnostičnih postopkih je smiselno uporabiti različne preiskavne metode, da potrdimo svoja razmišljanja ali pridobimo podatke, ki bodo omogočili učinkovitejše zdravljenje teh bolnikov.
