Abstract     The aim of the paper is to point out the importance of implementing the system of national health accounts in Slovenia as the basis for internationally comparable analyses of financial flows in health care. The paper outlines (presents the bases of) the system of health accounts (SHA) with special emphasis on the introduction of updates to the system which were, in 2006, incorporated in a common questionnaire by three international institutions - Eurostat, OECD and WHO who direct the process of introducing national health accounts in the Member States. The second part of the paper describes the state of implementation of national health accounts in Slovenia and shows estimates of health expenditure in Slovenia according to the SHA methodology.
