Abstract     More and more people are prone to overweight, diabetes and high blood pressure, and have a sedentary lifestyle. All that increases the probability of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). High plasma LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglycerides together with low plasma HDL cholesterol promote the atherosclerotic process and CVD. Patients with manifest CVD or diabetes and high-risk asymptomatic people should receive medicamentous treatment. Statins should be the first choice. Statin-fibrate combinations are the treatment of choice for diabetic patients and those with metabolic syndrome. Target guidelines goals should be followed. There is no evidence to support extra aggressive treatment of normal patients with CVD.
