Abstract     Transcutaneous cardiac pacing is a safe, efficient, and easy-to-use method of emergency cardiac pacing in symptomatic bradycardia and severe conduction disturbances. It can be used in prehospital and in-hospital setting. It represents an emergancy measure, a bridge to a more definite method of pacing, and a possible stand-by tool for threatening bradycardia. It is essential to be familiar with equipment, to prepare the patient, to properly attach appropriate electrodes, to assess mechanical effectiveness of pacing and to avoid relativety common mistakes that can be fatal.
