Abstract     To treat a suicidal patient is always a challenge no matter where a physician treats it: in the field, in a dispensary or if a psychiatrist admits such patient in a psychiatric hospital. Such a treatment is usually a compromise between responsibility for patient's life, his rejection for medical treatment, unpredictability for future course of events, physician's ethical principles ... Therefore it is not unusual that a physician treats even minor complaint of a somatic problem and performs unnecessary medical examination rather than sees a serious suicidal threat in patient's complaints. But it is definitely necessary to cope with the problem, to recognize suicidal behavior, to evaluate it properly and to choose adequate treatment.
