Abstract     A new eight-wavelength pulse CO-oximeter looks similar to two-wavelength pulse oximeter, but can also noninvasively measure carboxyhaemoglobin levels. The pulse CO-oximeter is useful in all Emergency Departments where many mild and chronic CO exposures are misdiagnosed due tothe inaccessibility and high cost of blood gas analysis. It is also particularly valuable in smaller hospitals, which have no CO-oximetry facilities. Pulse CO-oximeter accurately measure carboxyhemoglobin in the range of 1% to 40% and allows early oxygen therapy. Increased carboxyhaemoglobin levels determined by pulse CO-oximeter should be later confirmed by invasive blood tests analyzed bv blood gas machines with CO-oximetry measurements capability.
