Abstract     Introduction. Salmonellosis is an infection caused by different bacteria of this species. Case report. In the article, a 45-year old female patient is presented, who was admitted due to pain in the abdomen and diarrhea. During the diagnostic procedure infection with Salmonella Typhimurium and emphysematous enterocolitis were confirmed. Acute abdomen developed and the patient underwent emergency laparotomy. During the procedure a double sigmoidostomyand appendectomy was performed. The patient was dismissed two weeks after the operative procedure Conclusions. Emphysematous enterocolitis is an extremely rare complication of bacterial intection of the lower digestive tract. According to the literature this complication is very often fatal.
