Abstract     Slovenia has one of the highest suicide rates in Europe (overall 29 per 100000). From the case register of Urgent Psychiatry Outpatients Department (UPOD) all admissions in year 2004 and 2005 were extracted. During this time 2707 patients were examined in UPOD (1607 women 1100 man). Suicidal ideations and threats were observed in 22% of the patients. 7% of all patients were examined in UPOD after suicide attempts. Suicidal behaviour was observed in all age groups. Increased risk of suicidal behaviour was related with different factors. The prevention of suicide behaviour encompass early detection and treatment of mental disorder (depression in particular), scientific research of suicide behaviour and formation of suicide prevention centers and other services.
