Abstract     Drug and alcohol addiction cause a lot of material damage in the area of labor. Addictive individuals are a source of low product quality, low productivity, absence from work, accidents, which can cause material damage or injury, disputes, misunderstandings and other disturbances. Employers usually do not know how to treat employees who are addicted to alcohol and/or drugs. They often turn a blind eye to addiction and refuse to recognize that it represents a problem in their company. When they are confronted by facts, they often fire addictive individuals or seek help from an authorized physician, specialist of occupational, traffic and sports medicine. They rarely think of rehabilitation, because they are not familiar with it or find it not effective enough. Working under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances is not only a medical matter (alcohol poisoning, drug overdosing), but also a matter of order and discipline. In order to ensure discipline the employer should provide specific internal regulations, which prohibit the use of alcohol and illegal substances and also predict measures of controlling and sanctioning this use. The rules should apply to all employees and all employees should be familiar with them. Evaluation of working capacity is not only a task of the specialists of occupational, traffic and sports medicine (who perform the task on daily basis), but also of family physicians and other experts, e.g. psychiatrists, therapists, etc. Evaluation of working capacity is not only a task of the specialists of occupational, traffic and sport medicine (who perform the task on daily basis), but also of family physicians and other experts, e.g.psychiatrists, therapists, etc. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters)
