Abstract     The aim of this article is to describe the advantages of three-dimensional ultrasound (3D US) in neonatal neurosonography. The use of 3D US technology in neonatology reduces the imaging time from 20 minutes (with 2D US) to 5 minutes at the most. It improved the demonstration of cerebral anatomy and vasculature, allowing accurate evaluation of normal anatomical or pathological brain structures in any plane. 3D US furthermore improves the assessment of ventricular system and pathological structure volumes using a potentially improved standardization and documentation. The 3D US scanning modality with its possibility of storing obtained volume data by means of the Medison 8000 System not only allowsrepeated reviewing in indistinct situations, it additionally offers an ideal opportunity for training and education in neonatal neurosonography. The most useful contribution of this new 3D US scanning modality lies in the very field of neonatal neurosonography.
