Abstract		The paper discusses the cytogenetic analysis of prenatal diagnosis and spontaneous miscarriages performed in the Maribor Teaching Hospital Laboratory of Medical Genetics. The number of analyses and the pathology is shown for the 1993-2005 period. The methods used for whole chromosome karyotyping and other possible rapid methods for detection of specific chromosome rearrangements are demonstrated. The advantages and disadvantages of available methods for rapid and successful prenatal diagnosis are discussed.
