Abstract     This research paper deals with the problem of sexually abused children with an emphasis on the frequency and complexity of this problem, beginning with a definition of sexual abuse itself. In the first part, the authors focused on victims and especially on the person committing the crime of sexual abuse. Further on, they included a based on a questionnaire, concerning the awareness of primary school children and future nurses of this issue. The condition for quality and effective work in the field of sexual abuse of children is the knowledge of modical staff about the problem. The results of their research were presented in a graph and in the form of discussion. Among other facts they stated the data about the gender of the people who committed the crima in the years from 1992 to 1998 in Slovenia. The authors used the statistic data of Ministry for Internal Affairs, which shows that 98.8% men and 1.2% women committed such crimes. In the conclusion some methods for raising public awareness of the problem are outlined. This is of spocial importance, because a complex solution of this problem is difficult to find, although we have special proffesional services and organized networks of help. The main part in preventing sexual abuse play the people themselves and that is why the authors want to inform about this subject at least their colleagues because they will soon become parents themselves and will hava to raise their children to respect honesty, security, love... The authors are aware that they can not change the mentality of the majority which do not believe in the existence of abuse. They hope that those, who will read this research paper, will begin to think and talk about this subject more often.
