Abstract     Institutions that educate disabled people are in the phase of reforming, and that is why they are opening new ways of living. All changes are intended to be orientated towards better quality of life of people with developmental disabilities. Around the world we can see many different models, concerning institutional organization and support to people with developmental disabilities, which is not only the result of different level of deinstitutionalization but also reflects different needs of disabled individuals. We can foresee that also in the future people with developmental disabilities will need different models of living as well as different support structures. Individual with his/hers specific needs should be in the centre of these, and not an experimental new program or a »fashion trend«. In this process occupational therapy that uses the individual centered approach has an important role. The article has exactly this purpose: to introduce some needs of wards, who live in Slovene Institutions for training and care. The needs will be shown through the expressed level of satisfaction according to 8 dimensions, which Schalock points out in his research work concerning quality of life. In this respect it will be shown weather individuals priorities and satisfaction are connected with the environment in which individual lives.
