Abstract | A patient recovering from stroke is confronted with a lot of consequences following the illness. All of them influence his independence in daily activities and his command of the environment. Hemianopsia is a disturbance of the visual field resulting from stroke, brain tumor or brain injury, if either the visual pathways or the visual cortex has been affected or there is some damage on arteries which supply that area. A patient with such a disability has difficulties with all activities: self- care, work, productivity and leisure. Such a patient is therefore in danger in many situations, because he can't see an oncoming car or notice obstacles. Hemianopsia prevents the patient's functional improvement. It is a disorder the patient has to cope and live with, and in some way try to compensate it. | |
