Abstract     Nutrition is one of many factors that affect development of the brain and, therefore, the cognitive development of children. Undernutrition and deficiencies of iodide, iron and folate are all important for brain development. There si some evidence suggesting that zinc, vitamin B [below] 12and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids may also be important. The paper reviews numerous stuides, which emphasis the effect of nutrition, especially vitamins and minerals, on brain development and cognitive performance in children.
Summary     Prehrana je eden od mnogih dejavnikov, ki vplivajo na rast in razvoj otrok, na razvoj možganov in kognitivni razvoj. V literaturi je največ dokazov o pomenu podhranjenosti in pomanjkanja joda, železa in folne kisline za razvoj možganov. Raziskave so dokazale, da je vloga cinka, vitamina B [spodaj] 12, [omega]-3 polinenasičenih maščobnih kislin in nekaterih esencialnih aminokislin tudi pomembna. Članek seznanja z raziskavami, ki poudarjajo vlogo vitaminov in mineralov za razvoj mo ganov in kognitivnih sposobnosti otrok.
