Abstract     New pacing techniques which developed in recent years are: Alternative pacing sites of the right ventricle (RV), minimal ventricular pacing (MVP) and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). Cardiac stimulation from RV apex alters inter- and intra-ventricular impulse conduction and distorts biventricular contractility. This may contribute to eventual cellular remodeling and the development of histopathological changes which, which affects left ventricular systolic and diastolic functions. Recent studies demonstrated physiological benefits of right ventricular septal, outflow, or bundle of His pacing. Patients with sick sinus syndrome usualy receive a dual-chamber pacemaker, because of minimal, but possible developement of atrioventricular conduction abnormalities. The problem of pacing-induced ventricular desynchronization can be solved by a special pacing mode which preserves the safety of dual-chamber pacing and minimizes right ventricular pacing. Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) has been shown to improve symptoms and various functional parameters in patients with severe heart failure.
