Abstract     ALTE is common in preterm and term newborns when they enter infantile period. In most instances it is a benign disorder not necessitating any further management. In most sever cases the underlying reason in usually one of fhe pediatric sleep-disordered breathing syndromes, either obstructive or (in rare cases) central which could sometimes represent a real and dangerous lifethreatening event. A firm understanding of the terminology and differential diagnostic possibilities will allow practitioner (namely a neonatologist or pediatrician) to differentiate quickly between those events that require just minimal intervention and the others, which will demand further diagnostic and treatment options within a hospital setting. At the discharge it is important fhaf the parents are properly educated (in handling and maybe even resuscitating their baby) and that they are informed how to deal with everyday care and management of their child.
