Abstract     Even today nonoperative treatment still plays an important role in the treatment of the injured lower extremity. For many fractures it is the treatment of choice, but temporary immobilization can be used as supplement to surgery. It is safe and relatively inexpensive method of treatment, but the patients have to participate actively in their treatment and they should be regularly re-evaluated. The indications and shortcomings should be known; complications should be prevented and treated early. The methods of nonoperative treatment of tibial fractures, ankle and foot injuries are presented. Some types of injuries in that region are further discussed.
