Abstract     Fibrinolytic response to venous occlusion is used to asses efficiency of fibrinolytic system. All factors that might influence fibrinolytic response are not known. In 20 healthy volunteers venous occlusion was performed twice within 12-23 days (x = 16 days). Fibrinolytic response was determined by euglobulin clot lysis time (ECLT), by activity and antigen of tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA), by activity of t-PA inhibitors (PAI) and by antigen of endothelial t-PA inhibitor (PAI-1). The increases or decreases of parameters measured were calculated as differences between values before and after venous occlusion. Comparing increases (decreases) after both venous occlusions no statistically significant differences were determined in the whole group. However, quite big individual differenced appeared in ECLT increases, t-PA activity increases and in PAI-1 antigen decreases. Statistically significant correlations between values after both venous occlusions were observed only for t-PA activity, PAI-1 antigen, and for tPA antigen increases and PAI activity decreases. Poor responders to venous occlusion were determined by five criteria. After the first venous occlusion 12 poor responses were observed (by all criteria together). After the second occlusion all poor responses, except one, changed to good responses, but nine other poor responses appeared. It was concluded that reproducibility of fibrinolytic response was poor in the observation period. Therefore, clinical significance of venous occlusion to asses effectivness of fibrinolytic system is probably limited.
