Abstract     The author exposes the meaning of emotional intelligence (EI) in health care. She presents motions, the development of terms emotional and social intelligence, and empathy as basic element of EI that enables understanding of patient's experiences of illness and related emotional burdens of patients. EI is important and necessary in health care professions. The author arguer its importance from patients' needs and rights point of view and also from health care professionals' side, where the right to satisfying interpersonal relationship on work places exists. We hardly imagine interpersonal relationships without El. Better relationship and interpersonal cooperation of health care employees is omitted with numerous circumstances; especially are exposed disruptive/violent behavior in health care that could be related to lack of El, effects of vertical hierarchy on nurses' emotions and modes of horizontal violence which is typical for nursing care. Some examples fnr improving EI and interpersonal relationships in working environments are also presented.
