Abstract     The article addresses the role of a company in one's personal and professional development, i.e. the development of an employee's professional identity. The focus is on those activities of the system of developing human resources with which a company creates the conditions for the education/learning and career development of its employees. The system of human resources management defines the area of developing human resources in wider terms as a process of analysing and arranging different programmes and activities to successfully manage human resources. The activities of a human resources management system bring together the hiring, selection, initiation, development, assessment, maintenance and retention of employees. A system of developing human resources is only efficient if complemented by other activities of a human resource management system; the latter are supported by flexible management and governance, following development of the profession and co-operation in the activities of the external environment.
Summary     Prispevek obravnava vlogo delovne organizacije pri osebnem in poklicnem razvoju oz. razvoju poklicne identitete zaposlenega. Pozornost usmerjamo v dejavnosti sistema razvoja človeških virov, s katerimi delovna organizacija ustvarja pogoje za izobraževanje oz. učenje in karierni razvoj zaposlenih. Sistem upravljanja človeških virov opredeli področje razvoja človeških virov širše, in sicer kot proces analiziranja in urejanja različnih programov ter dejavnosti, s katerimi se želi uspešno ravnati s človeškimi viri. Dejavnost sistema upravljanja človeških virov združuje pridobivanje, selekcijo, uvajanje, razvoj, vrednotenje, vzdrževanje in zadrževanje zaposlenih. Sistem razvoja človeških virov je učinkovit le, če ga dopolnjujejo preostale dejavnosti sistema upravljanja človeških virov; to pa podpirajo fleksibilno vodenje in upravljanje, spremljanje razvoja stroke ter sodelovanje v dejavnostih zunanjega okolja.
