Abstract     Three classical approaches are used for the surgical removal of vestibular schwannomas of the cerebellopontine angle and meatus acousticus internus: translabyrinthine, middle fossa and retrosigmoid. Until now only the retrosigmoid approach was used in Slovenia. Two cases are presented where translabyrinthine and middle fossa approaches were used. The tumor was totally removed in both patients, postoperatively mild and temporary peripheral paresis of facial nerve occurred. In the second patient the hearing improved postoperatively. All three approaches to the internal auditory canal are presented and discussed. Surgical approach must be selected according to the tumor size and location, general condition of the patient, hearing and facial nerve functioning. For the optimal surgical removal cooperation of the neurotosurgeon and neurosurgeon is obligatory.
