Abstract     Of all fall-related fractures, hip fracture is the most common and causes the greatest number of deaths among older adults. It often leads to the most severe health problems with the loss of independence and reduced quality of Iife. The major reasons for hip fracture being so common among older adults are osteoporosis and increased incidence of falls. We use different classification for a proximal fractures of femur, the most widely used is Muller AO classification.Other commonly used are Garden's, Pauwel"s and Pipkin's classifications. The incidence of hip fractures among older adults is expected to rise sharply in following years, which gives even greater importance to the proper preventive measures. Fall prevention programs and adequate treatment of osteoporosis are crucial for a good prevention of the hip fracture.
