Abstract		Lower part of lumbar spine is in its lubosacral junction subjected to severe forces. The forces act in several directions, lumbar discs do not posses arterial branches, what make them more prone do degenerative processes. This makes this body area even more important to family physician to know spinal structures and biomechanics, especially of lumbar segment. The first part of the paper deals with these issues. The second part is dedicated to diseases of low back.
