| Abstract | | Superficial thrombophlebitis and phlebothrombosis represent the result of different diseases and procedures. Most frequently they are the complication of varicose veins. Timely diagnosing, treating and preventive measures can prevent one of the most frequent causes of death - pulmonary embolism. The article brings a review of the etiology, diagnosing, treatment and prevention of phlebitis and phlebothrombosis. Family physician has an important role in diagnosing and timely prevention of such conditions. Definite diagnosing and treatment can be performed in secondary institutions only, therefore an adequate cooperation between the first level of health care and clinical institutions is mandatory.
