Abstract     In vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) has become an effective infertility treatment method since its first use fifteen years ago. In the following we have analyzed the results of ten years' activity of the IVF-center at Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Ljubljana with the aid of IVF-registry. In the years 1983 to 1992 5960 oocyte retrievals and 4449 embryo transfers were done and 730 clinical pregnancies achieved which resulted in more than 400 deliveries until the end of 1992. The team was constantly improving their work and has achieved a 16 % pregnancy rate per oocyte retrieval cycle in 1991. Number of abortions is the same as in spontaneous conception but there are more unrecognized abortions in the latter group. Many factors affect the success rates: indications for IVF, age ofthe female, type of ovarian stimulation and oocyte retrieval, embryo quality, number of embryos trasferred, number of IVF attempts, implantation and luteal phase treatment and male factors. Thus an analysis of this nowadays routine and successful work should be done. In the second part the pregnancy outcome afrer IVF-ET procedure for singletons (more multiple pregnancies after IVF-ET can have per se adverse outcomes) born 1987-91 was retrospectively analyzed. They were compared to singletons conceived spontaneously. Following IVF- ET, we have found there are more bleedings in the first trimester, more threatened preterm labours, more hospitalizations in pregnancy, more preterm labours, a higher caesarean section rate and a lower neonatal morbidity rate. We have found no significant differences comparing bleeding in the 2nd and 3rd trimester, intrauterine growth retardation, placental abruption, perinatal mortality rate, low birth weight newborns, congenital anomalies and malformations and mean Apgar score.
