Abstract     Background. The success rate for treating acute coronary syndrome with the use of percutaneous coronary intervention has been significantly improved through the introduction of intracoronary stents. Complications after stent implantation are rare, usually caused by intracoronary stent thrombosis. As a result of this complication, patients often exhibit reinfarct which can sometimes lead to cardiogenic shock or even death. This kind of event can therefore influence the short-term and long-term prognosis of these patients. Aim. The aim of our study was to define clinical characteristics and prognosis for patients with acute coronary syndrome who were treated with percutaneous coronary intervention and experienced intracoronary stent thrombosis. Hypotesis. Our hypothesis was that there will be more complications such as left sided heart failure and cardiogenic shock in the clinical course of patients with intracoronary stent. Therefore the short-term mortality will also be increased, compared to patients who haven't experienced such complications. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters)
