Abstract     The diagnosis of panarteritis nodosa (PN) has to be confirmed with clinical and histological features. It is belived that the kidneys are affected in up to 85 percent of cases. We studied renal biopsy and autopsy samples of 12 patients with PN to compare their patomorphologic features with other authours. All samples were processed according to standard techniques for light microscopy and immunofluorescence. 3 patients had classical PN: 1 of them showed focal sclerotic glomerulonephritis (GN), the second focal segmental necrotic extracapillary (Ex) proliferative and sclerotic GN and the third no changes. Blood vessels in all of them showed sclerotic and partially destructive lesions. In 9 cases with microscopic form of PN small blood vessels showed predominantly necrotic lesions and the following glomerular changes: focal segmental (6/9) and diffuse (1/9) Ex proliferative GN with associated necrotic lesions and sclerosis. We could not prove their immune complex origin.
