Abstract     Aims of the study: The aims of the presented scientific work were: 1. to determine relevant pathornorphological and immunohistochemical factors, 2. to evaluate the clinical significance of loco regional staging by the endoscopical ultrasonic examination, 3. to evaluate the relevance of the standardization of more radical resection therapy, 4. to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the intraperitoneal applied chemotherapy with mitornycin bound to activated carbon particles 5. to evaluate the safety and reasonableness of the palliative resections in patients with resectable gastric cancer disease. On regard of these analyses, the final aim was to identify all significant factors which as independent statistical variables fulfill the condition of being termed as prognostic factor for the patients with resectable gastric cancer.Patients and methods: The presented scientific work consists of fife studies with the same basic data base. It encloses 535 patients with resectable gastric cancer operated at the Deparhnent of abdominal and general surgery in General hospital Maribor in a 13 year period between January 1st 1992 and December 31st 2004. All patients were undertaken the same standardized diagnostic workup. In 78 patients operated with curable intent in the period between between January 1st 1995 and December 31st 1998 (study 1 and basic study for study 1) the focus was on the clinical, pathomorphologieal and immunohistochemical factors. For 82 patients resected for the gastric cancer between January 1st 2001 and July 1st 2003 (study 2) the reliability of the preoperative performed endoscopical ultrasonic examination was examined.
